Track Of The Week: 'Growing Pains' by Pose Retals

OCTOBER 30, 2020

Rose Petals first solo offering of the year takes us on an emotional trip to self-love.

Pose Retals
is an R&B singer-songwriter originally from Miami but is now based in Boston. Through her inspiration from musical influences like Solange, Mereba, and The Internet, she creates a sound that is both ethereal and intense in her own way.

I particularly came across her music around April this year: I was listening to music on shuffle and a song called “Pose’s Interlude” from Lumonest’s Bloom started to play:

.

I became a fan since then. I started to listen to the rest of her discography and I couldn’t wait to hear something new from her, and it was worth the wait.
‘It hurts when I go back to dark paths and questioning my worth’ echoes the fittingly-named Rose Petals on her latest single ‘Growing Pains’.
In a shooting exercise of self-awareness, Pose Retals exposes her emotional vulnerability having a soliloquy to herself, revisiting darker times in her life while questioning her worth.

What starts as a mellow & nostalgic song, ends up being a powerful self-love manifesto with phrases like “I’m over these growings / Colours please can you stay? / And fire stop burning all the pages / Cuz my book has a name” being the perfect closing to a masterful song about a painful yet empowering journey of growth and self-discovery.‘Growing Pains’ is out now on all digital streaming platforms.
For fans of: Solange, SYD, Mereba..

POSE’S GOAL AS AN ARTIST IS TO JUST HELP EVERYONE UNDERSTAND HOW POWERFUL EMOTIONS CAN AFFECT US AND HOPES PEOPLE WILL RELATE TO HER..
